OPEN FAMILY CANOES
Based at our Park Foot location only.
Open canoes are larger than paddleboards or kayaks with space and seating for people and maybe a small dog. It's an open water craft and is propelled by single blade paddles.
Our Canadian style open canoes are equipped with a seat at the front and one at the rear with a central bench that can accommodate 2 small children.
Here on Ullswater, they are the perfect way to glide across the lake with friends and family and some leisurely paddling.
OPEN CANOE HIRE
Open Canoes can be hired by the hour, two hours or for a half-day or full-day depending on how much you'd like to explore Ullswater.
There MUST always be ONE ADULT on board. Maximum capacity is 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 small children - minimum age is 4 years old. Maximum load 280kg.
We recommend there should be (minimum) 2 people able to use a paddle per canoe. Each person uses a paddle on opposite sides of the boat so you travel forwards, not in a never ending circle!
Canoeing also requires being in tune with your partner - the person at the front (the bow) sets the paddle-pace and the person at the back (the stern) has the job of matching them.
Once you're both in tune you'll find you glide beautifully across the water.

We recommend you bring the following:
- Clothing and footwear you don't mind getting wet.
- A waterproof jacket and trousers can also be useful as layers help keep you warm on cooler days.
- We suggest you avoid wearing jeans as when wet they can make you cold!
- Hot weather - suncream and a bottle of water are essential items and think about bringing a sunhat.
- Cold weather - layers of warm clothing and a change of clothes is advisable.
- We suggest bringing a mobile phone in case of emergencies and we have dry bags which can be purchased on site.

HOW LONG ARE SESSIONS AND DO I NEED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE?
Hire sessions are 1 hour, 2 hours, or you can hire for a half-day or full-day, depending on how much you want to explore.

We have changing facilities at both our locations.
Showers are also available elsewhere on each site if required.

The only time we will cancel a session is if we regard the conditions as dangerous.

CAN WE STAY NEARBY?
Yes, very close!
Our HQ is based at Waterside House Campsite right on the water's edge - it's an ideal base for exploring the Lakes.
There's camping, glamping, Tipi and Pod hire available.
We can also recommend the beautiful Edenhall Estate which has lots of amazing dog friendly accomodation options from woodland cabins, lake view cottages, loft-style apartments and family lodges.
There are also lots of places to stay in the Lake District.
COVID 19
We take all possible precautions to protect both our customers and ourselves.
All equipment, including our wetsuits are sanitised after each use and we ask that everyone visiting Ullswater Wake & Surf takes personal responsibility for themselves and others by taking all possible precautions as detailed in government guidelines.
We ask that if you have any symptoms of COVID, or if you have been in contact with someone who has COVID that you call or email to reschedule your booking.
Please give us as much notice as possible!
